Description
GroupMix is a Max for Live audio effect for Ableton Live that lets you switch and randomize sub-tracks inside a Group Track at the beat level. Paint a 64-step grid to decide which track plays on each step, then create remixes, variations, and evolving arrangements in real time.
Use it for drums, bass, synth layers, alternate patterns, and creative live performance workflows. GroupMix includes full-grid and per-bar randomization, chance weights, lockable rows, crossfade transitions, solo preview, multi-instance support, and export-ready playback.

1. More resolutions.
2. Longer crossfade option.
Im imagining whole bar or two bar selections with really long crossfades for ambient / texture designs.
3. The ability to lock a row.
Lets say I randomize until i like some stuff. But i only really like the placement of two of the rows. Would be great to lock those, then continue randomizing the rest until I find a place where I like all of the cuts.
4. A way for this to work on Audio Effect or instrument racks. I have an audio effect rack, with 8 different Chains / lanes with 8 Cable guys loaded each with a different preset. Woudl be awesome addition if its possible. I guess it would maybe have to be a double nested effect rack, or maybe you put the device on the first chain within the audio effect rack.
Just some thoughts. Could elevate whats already a great device. Thank you!!!
#1 (more resolutions), #2 (longer crossfade), and #3 (lock row) are definitely on my radar for the next update. The lock row idea especially is a game-changer for the randomize workflow.
As for #4 (Rack support) — I totally see the potential there, but it's a pretty different interaction model from Group Track switching. Rather than stretching GroupMix beyond its core purpose, I'm thinking this would work best as a separate dedicated device down the line. Stay tuned!
Thanks again for the thoughtful input 🙏
