Description

Rotation creates a quadrature version of your signal

→ two signals shifted by 90 degrees.

This allows perfect mono compatibility, with no phase cancellation.

It also makes it possible to design stereo bass that works perfectly in club environments, where low frequencies are often summed to mono.

Your low end stays solid, while your stereo image becomes alive.

But it doesn’t stop there. Quadrature is just the starting point ! it opens the door to much more extreme and creative processing.

Hey, how's this different from the SubQuadrature device by @warf?

    Hey! Good question 🙂
SubQuadrature seems to be focused on doing quadrature properly, and it looks like a great device. You really can’t go wrong with either. If you're just looking for quadrature (width), both devices will get you there in a very similar way. Where Rotation takes a different direction is in how that quadrature is used. Instead of just setting a fixed phase relationship, it uses the quadrature pair to create continuous rotational movement in the signal.
It can also be synchronized to MIDI notes, which opens the door to more modulation possibilities, closer to what I’d call spectral phase modulation, where the rotation speed follows pitch.
So if you want something simple and focused on quadrature, SubQuadrature is perfect. If you're looking for a more modulation-oriented and creative tool, Rotation might be a good choice!
