Description

---NOW UPDATED FOR LIVE 10---

**Previous compatibility problems with this device SHOULD have disappeared with the addition of Sysex to Live 10

--------------------------------------

Editor for Yamaha TX81Z with sysex parameter exchange and full parameter recall of presets.

make sure these settings are correct on your TX81Z (Utility -> midi control):

- Exclusive: ON

- Receive CH + Transmit CH must be set to 1 (ONE)

- connect TX81Z and Computer via midi BOTH WAYS

- drop the M4L device on a midi track in Live

- set up ins and outs on midi channel in Live

- make sure live is monitoring the midi in (monitor in, or record enable)

- Choose a preset on the front panel of the TX81Z and press LOAD on the editor.

All parameters should now take their positions from the chosen preset.

  • jeroenliebregts · March 05 2014
i don't know, i built it for myself and i only own the TX81Z
  • mattsingmin · March 16 2014
hi jeroen - this is awesome - thank you for putting together and sharing - unfortunately I can't get the midi interface port step to work - when I click on the drop down menu, the following list appears:
    Off
    Session 1
    Session 2
    Launchpad Launchpad
    Elektron TM-1 Elektron TM-1
    from MAX/MSP 1
    from MAX/MSP 1
...none of which are midi interfaces that I have... and none of my own MIDI interfaces appear... which means I can't select the MIDI interface that I use for my TX81Z
could you let me know if I'm missing something here?
would be amazing to have this working!!
  • jeroenliebregts · March 16 2014
    Hey,
Ok let me take another look at that. I thought had just solved this problem because it was working on another computer, and updating the midi port list perfectly... but somehow now it's not updating again. be back soon..
  • jeroenliebregts · March 16 2014
    download and try again please!
  • mattsingmin · March 16 2014
hi jeroen - just downloaded the file again and tried the midi port list but still had the same issue unfortunately - same list of midi ports comes up as before... let me know if there's anything else i should do
  • jeroenliebregts · March 16 2014
    try once more now please!
  • mattsingmin · March 16 2014
hi jeroen - still the same result unfortunately - midi ports not updating...
  • 0m3n · March 17 2014
    jeroen,
first thanks for taking the time to make this , so cool!
but..i too am having the same issue as mattsingmin.
i can trigger the program changes but that is it and the list is only showing :
    Off
    Session 1
    Session 2
    Launchpad Launchpad
    Elektron TM-1 Elektron TM-1
    from MAX/MSP 1
    from MAX/MSP 1
eagerly await a fix as i cant wait to try this out.
    thanks
  • 0m3n · March 17 2014
oh if it helps im using live 9.1.1 on a imac 10.8.4
  • jeroenliebregts · March 17 2014
hey, i will look into it again soon.
it was made using Max5 and tested in live 8. The patch uses an external object lh_midiin and lh_midiout, which has a version for both max5 and max6. so i'm not sure if that could be a problem.. i know maxforlive in live9 works wih max6, so not sure if it will run max5 patches
  • jeroenliebregts · March 29 2014
Can someone using Live 8 / Max 5 confirm this editor works for them?
  • vladimirrusanov · June 15 2014
Hello. Use Live9Max. The same problem, do not work changing operators. how to install the device port?
  • jeroenliebregts · June 15 2014
try updating lh_midiin and lh_midiout objects
    http://cycling74.com/toolbox/midi-inout-for-maxforlive/
    i don't have ability to test it because i don't own live9/max6
  • abrasivesounds · July 08 2014
Did anyone figure out how to fix this?
  • Duscio · August 26 2014
Really nice done & easy to use.
  • stevenclements · February 03 2015
This will load in a 32 bit version of LIVE 9 but not in the 64 bit version. I can get it to load in the 32 bit version and change patches from the panel to the TX81Z but none of the other features work.
Would love an update this would be so fantastic
    Cheers
    Steve
  • jeroenliebregts · February 08 2015
    Hi Steve
Good to know about 32/64 bit.
i will try to look in to it using demo versions of live9 and max6 since i don't own those yet.
    some questions:
-do you see your midi ports popping up in the menu on the left?
-did you connect your TX both ways to the computer using the same port number?
-did you select your midi channel to match the TX (even if it's channel 1 and it looks like it's already on it)
    -Jeroen
  • jeroenliebregts · February 08 2015
Been checking it on Live 9 (32bit) and works just fine here!
Make sure the following setting on the TX81Z are correct (Utility menu):
    - Exclusive: ON
    - P.change: COM
    - Receive CH + Transmit CH should be the same channel.
let me know if that works for you.
  • ilyani · February 14 2015
    Hi,
I am able only to change the program (preset) from m4l.
    Running Live 9 with Max7.
    Will appreciate any advice.
    Thanks!
  • ilyani · February 14 2015
By the way, what is this port list? What should I choose?
    Thanks.
  • ilyani · February 14 2015
Ok, looks like it relies on lh_midiin and lh_midiout objects which work only under OSX, not Win.. :(
  • niyo80 · September 28 2016
hi, my tx81z says "midi buffer full" when i try to change the parameters, the only thing working is program change. any help? thanks!
    i am on live8
  • Stakk3r · February 23 2017
    Hi
First of all, thanks for making this! I've got it sort of working inside Max, but inside Live I don't see my MIDI device on the list. Inside Max I can select my MIDI device and it kinda works otherwise, but the load button doesn't work so the sliders & knobs are not updated with the values of the patch selected on the TX81Z. I can start editing them blindly, but it's not super useful :-P (Live 9 & Max 7.)
  • jeroenliebregts · February 23 2017
Please re-download and replace the old one, and give it another try. The midi port updating problem is common but it's hard to solve since it works on my own computer.. let me know if this works!
  • jeroenliebregts · February 23 2017
Mhhh, never mind, that won't be a solution.. I was able to recreate your problem on my system but couldn't repair it. If i load the old version of the editor my midi device list will even update live when i'm pulling usb cords out and back in.. honestly I don't even know how it does that..! I will do some research on other m4l devices and how they handle midi port list updating..
  • jeroenliebregts · February 23 2017
OK, I might have found what went wrong there, please re-download, try again and report back!
  • LACONIC · February 26 2017
Hi Jeroen, I just downloaded your max4live device and I am also having a similar issue reported: I see "other" midi ports rather than my own. I tried to edit the device and typed in the device I am using, but it does not respond.
I've also looked into the lh_midiinoutV1.03 link you posted but I can't seem to use that since I am on Windows 7 Pro.
I don't think it's an issue with only your device, I think this may be a bug of sorts with Max and Live. It would not be a bad idea to contact support for either group. I tried loading a midi device from another company and it did not load any of my midi devices (which Ableton easily recognizes).
Once again, thanks for the editor, it would be AMAZING to have this working, let me know if I can help you test.. cheers! LVF

Windows won't work because lh_in and lh_out objects are not compatible. The midi port update problem i'm having a hard time with, i've copied it from another m4l device which was working well on my machine and it worked well here.. no not sure what's going on there..
  • chrispetro · March 15 2017
    this device does not work
  • anoniempje · March 24 2017
    Hi,
i tried your editor and got the same problems. I'm on live 9,m4l 6, osx11.11.5.
I really would like to get this working since it's the only editor i can use in ableton that supports sending and receiving sysex data. And it looks good and clean.
I got 6 circlons midi ports, probably yours ;)
Strange thing is, some people got it to work, i also found a altered patch degrader version of your m4l device. But in that device same problems, i get the midi interface names of the guy who altered it.
    Any updates about this?
I would like to help if possible but, i don't know much about creating in m4l.
    Greetings Chris!

The weird thing is that for me it updates the midi port menu even when i'm pulling usb cables live. For the rest of you it doesn't update and just has in memory the last midi configuration that was used before uploading it..
Maybe you guys could find another m4l device that uses a menu with midi devices that DOES work on your system, let me know which one that is and I can see how it works and hopefully make mine work..

hi! can you wxplain how have you done that? i'm working on a dx7 editor and i think that your work can really help me a lot
    text me at [email protected]
    thank you a lot!
  • lermano · January 19 2018
Hi, downloaded and installed your editor. Same problem as all the other users.
It would be great to see this work for my setup iMac with OS 10.13.2 an Live Suite 9.7.5
Any chance this will happen in the near future? The TX is a great piece of gear but a pain to edit via the mini display.
Let me know if you need help, would even spend some money to see this come to life.
  • junologue · April 07 2018
Same as everyone else, i am just live 10, and it does not show up my midi devices. Please, can we get an update on this?
    It would mean EVERYTHING!
    Thanks a lot!
  • junologue · April 07 2018
I found what you asked for!
    http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/4667/h9-remote
Here is a plugin that successfully finds all my MIDI devices, even on the latest ableton version!
Could you merge the sourcecode with your plugin?
  • weyerma · January 05 2020
Very nice :-) the only thing missing is a send patch button... i can receive but i would be great being able to resend all the parameters if they are saved with the project.
  • machinea · March 18 2021
Is this working in Live 11? has anyone tested it?
  • Levimudhouse · April 25 2024
    Loving it. Thank you!!!
  • EduardoGuerrero · August 07 2025
