Description
Inspired by Alvin Lucier’s 1969 piece I Am Sitting in a Room, this device automates the process of recording and re-recording audio played back into a space (or simulated space). The original work explored how sound is transformed by the resonant characteristics of a room over repeated iterations. This Max for Live device captures that process—starting with a dry recording and gradually layering room-affected versions—allowing you to explore sonic erosion and acoustic fingerprinting within Ableton Live.
Features:
- Record dry sample
- Playback & record loop
- Reverse playback & recording
- Record to external file (supports .wav, .aiff and .flac)
- (Iterative) manual gain ride
- File-drop to set sample length (drag & drop file load currently NOT supported, set length and record in)
- Mono/Stereo modes
Requirements:
- Track setup (consult "?"-icon in the device)
Known issues:
- Backwards stereo recording messes with panning
- File recording is not 100% reliable, working on a fix. Recommended to re-instantiate plugin between recordings.
- Reversed mode sometimes buggy when using longer samples. Will investigate.
Update v1.0.1.
- Reworked file recording system to be more reliable.
- Touched up reverse mode. Not sure if fully fixed but definitely improved.
