Description

Scantron is a generative MIDI tool that converts visual noise into structured MIDI patterns, building directly on the architecture of our Photomat device. Up top, choose from note range and image adjustment controls—including color balance, hue, and contrast—or explore six fractal-based algorithms across nine noise types with a dedicated scale setting. The top-right panel offers tools to navigate through noise frames, adjust resolution, and zoom in for detailed editing; when zoomed above 1x, simply click and drag to explore specific segments of the current frame. In Image mode, interpret pixel data along either the X or Y axis using individual color channels or polyphonic combinations of all three, then refine results with brightness, hue, saturation, and balance adjustments. Switch to Notes mode to define pitch, velocity, note length, rate, and trigger probability. Gate functions allow filtering of values above or below a set threshold to keep generated patterns musically focused.
