Description
Pad Drifter 2.0 is one of two Max for Live devices included in the Pad Drifter Collection by Gamma Sutra, which includes PAD DRIFTER TRANSFORM (a Max for Live MIDI Transformation Tool) and PAD DRIFTER 2.0 (a standard Max for Live Device).
The Pad Drifter Collection has one function/purpose: transforming on-the-grid, "blocked" chord sequences (e.g. chords that change on 4 or 8 bar turnarounds) into organic flowing backing pad performances. Pad Drifter (both devices) begins by tying all notes that are common from one chord to the next together, so that common notes are smoothly held legato style, as notes that are not continued are released, and notes for the new chord are sounded. Pad drifter then gives the option of adding extreme, random drift (up to 16 bars of offset!) of each note's start time, and also randomly shortening and/or lengthening each note's tail. The result: an ever-evolving, organic wash of backing chords particularly suited for ambient music and backgrounds.
