Description

‘brain fog’ is a free unique realtime audio effect that adds texture and grit to anything

It works very similar to noise FM in a synthesizer, except that you can put it on anything.

It is inspired by the unique crispy tone created by the read position error knob in hvoyaaudio ribs. Unlike ribs, this is a live effect with low latency (1-10ms).

This effect randomizes the playback position of the incoming audio by a small amount (up to 5ms in both directions, effectively phase modulation). Using simple controls, you can add lots of texture to your sound, ranging from fuzzy, crisp treble over fast digital pitch instability to analog tape flutter and even rhythmic percussive glitches. Sidechain mode let’s you use your own noise source.
