Description
This is a heavily modified version of Akai's APC Step Sequencer released in 2011.
I was inspired to build upon Akai's Max device since I was such a fan of Korg's Electribe series but I wanted something that worked inside Live better. There were some major shortcomings with Akai's device and some critical bugs that were overlooked. I taught myself Max for this project so it took me some time to get accustomed.
Eventually, I refactored my efforts into a newer version that addressed some major bugs. Most everything in this device is new aside from some hold overs from Akai's version that didn't make sense to replace. With so many added features it is still a mess in there but I think it was all worth it.
Some key features are as follows:
-Increased quantization to 128th grid. Notes added outside of this device will be set to the nearest 128th note when the device is used to edit.
-No limits on note duration.
-Extended notes to 16 and allowed for user defined notes. This also freed the Cue Level Knob and solved a bug.
-Increased user functions by eight-fold.
-Better loop and time signature compatibility.
-Overall better editing capabilities.
-Memory function to save phrases and loops outside of clips.
Edits:
This Max device has only been tested with the APC20 and the software versions listed since that is all I own. It probably works with the APC40 (mark 1) since I kept the initialization sequence from Akai's version.
If anyone knows how to edit a max device and wants to make additions for a feature or include any other hardware let me know in the comments or through my email and I will see what I can make happen.
