Description

Par|randomizer 2 looks much the same as its predecessor, but adds a lot of subtle extra functionality, making it much more of a powerful tool!

Just like version 1, it's a Max4Live device that allows you to randomize the parameters of any device/plugin you map it to. But here's what's new:

New Features:

• intelligent randomization: randomization balanced around the current value, reducing bias towards center

• Mappable global range control

• Individual parameter range control

• Individual parameter min & max control

• parameter list with inline range, min & max editing

• floating window for larger parameter list & controls

• parameter smoothing for more subtle/moving effects.

• retains parameters on re-mapping to device with same parameters (so you can retain parameters even when copy-pasting/duplicating par-randomizer 2 and mapped device, or remap to other instance of same device type without losing your settings)

• Full path indication

What was already there:

• Full recall of all par-randomizer parameters

• high performance, even with hundreds of parameters

• map/ automate randomization

• Possible to undo randomization

• Comprehensive parameter list

• disable/enable parameters

• Full visual feedback about when parameters are not randomized

• very fast workflow

• simple disable/enable by disabling device

So, lots of things there, from generating ever-moving glitch effects, to subtle movements, or just to click through & generate some surprising presets until you find something you like!

You can view an awkward video where I try to showcase some of the features and uses here...

I genuinely hope you find this device inspiring!

Make some great music, and have some fun in the meantime!

Cheers,

Sander | Fluxwork

Updates:

v2.0.1 - 08-12-2025:

- added support for Max 8/Ableton 11, probably below too.

- fixed a bug limiting the maximum number of parameters to 127. It should go up to over 16.000 now, theoretically 😇

Between the mutation devices and this we're set with random on Live unless Live introduces an internal DAW function. Thanks for this.

    It's a .png file..?

Yeah sorry, this site somehow allowed to upload the image as a "device file", and doesn't allow to remove it. The actual device is in the added link...

@Sanders Fluxwork! Thanks so much for continuing to upgrade par-randomizer, I enjoyed v1 very much with extending the expressive possibilities of Fors Chiral which it's a terrific synth to pair with, and now v2 has improved the controllability — can't have complete chaos after all. 🤯
The floating window is useful, is there a way to resize it so I can get a better view of synths with 100+ parameters? It'd also be great to be able to sort columns, like alphabetical name display.
I'm still having an issue where if I duplicate a whole track with an instrument + par-randomizer, then par-randomizer isn't copied — it's gets pasted as a blank space. The new features list "retains parameters" so I'd expect it to work. Can you please let me know how to overcome this?
(Previously, I had to use a workaround where I saved a rack containing instrument + par-randomizer as .adg, then dragged that into new tracks, but that's clunky.)
