Did this for my band. I needed to play a custom sound everytime the drummer hit a drum. A piezo mic will carry the signal to Ableton.

The device doesn't let the original sound trough, and you have a treshold (-70 to 6) from which the sound will play everytime. I used this with an envelope follower mapped to the audio track volume as you can see on the image so the sound is not always at the same level! Use the IN Monitor setting.
