Description

The Rutt-Etra video synthesizer was co-invented by Steve Rutt & Bill Etra. It essentially was an analog computer for video raster manipulation. Here we have a cheap imitation of it with no feedback effect. Still kinda neat.

In order to make it audio-reactive put an envelope follower and map to different Live number boxes. I usually map to some of the scale number boxes. The reason why there is max and live number boxes is max gives more detailed control but can't be mapped in Live. On a side note, I used the "jit.movie~" to be able to auto-modulate movie files with sound. That is why I said use the envelope follower in the track where Rutt Etra is in--you can bring down the volume and modulate the movie and or live camera feed if you insert the envelope follower in a different audio or midi track. Enjoy.

    amazing work, thanks!
    I just can load it into a midi chanel though, therefore I can't do the envelope follower thing because it's not allowing to charge any instrument besides this synth nore map from another channel any input.
    Any tip to load it into an audio file? what am I missing here?

    I kind of don't understand what you are describing. So it's a midi instrument right now, it can easily be changed to an audio effect.
    I basically made it so audio from a movie file could be used to trigger the envelope follower. I used the "jit.movie~" instead of the "jit.movie" in order to capture sound from a movie file. If you do not want to play sound out of a movie file to modulate (self modulate) the movie file then in a separate audio or midi track with sound output, load the envelope follower in to that track and map
    to a number box in Rutt Etra (which is in another independent track). I usually map "scale" number boxes, mapping to "disp" displacement can also work but you have to test it out for yourself and experiment. Hope this helps

    It can be changed to an audio effect but you would have to open it in Max and edit it by changing some of the patch around. Its easy but you need to know basic Max in oder to do this.

    thanks for your answer. Well yes, that's the thing, I want to control it using audio input that doe'snt come from the movie itself but from outside.
