Jerome Robins Clipper is a Max for Live audio processor designed to attenuate the peaks of audio, resulting in a louder sound while preserving transients. By removing the peaks at a specified threshold, the clipper allows the rest of the audio to remain unaffected. This technique has been proven to be useful in reducing transient peaks while maintaining the dynamics of the overall material.

The clipper has the most noticeable impact on instruments that possess a significant dynamic range, such as kicks, snares, hats, claps, stabs, and plucks.

In addition, the combination of a clipper plugin before your limiter can enhance loudness. By using a clipper to reduce the peaks of a waveform before applying limiting, the limiter can operate more effectively. This approach helps prevent the undesirable pumping effects that can occur when heavily limiting a signal, enabling you to increase the loudness of your songs while preserving clarity.
