Description

Isorhythm Tool is a Max4Live midi effect device, a hybrid sequencer/arpeggiator designed to record/compose in real time midi loops with different rhythmical/metrical qualities. It runs independently from the time signature of the Ableton project, but in sync with it’s time. It is a real-time composition tool and it sounds more musical then step-sequencers or other arpeggiators, because loops are recorded with their natural note velocities when played by musician as opposed to being manually set via mouse. The name comes from the term “Isorhythm” - which is a compositional or rhythmical term in music, first introduced in Western Music composition by Guillaume de Machaut in XIV century and was used in composition of Motets. The main idea is to create a very long non repetitive structures when overlaying short loops of the same note rhythm values but different length. For example laying a loop of 5 - quarter notes notes over a 4/4 beat will repeat it’s cycle only after 20 bars.
