Description

This midi delay is a simple tool, but it's optimized for quickly creating grooves! Rather than having a Sync button to switch between quantized and free rates, the controls have an additive relationship. This lets you delay the notes on a channel by beat division, and then add milliseconds to dial in your groove further.

"Beat" delays notes by note values, including triplets and dotted notes

"ms" adjusts delay time in milliseconds

Both dials can function independently as well, since Beat does not add delay when turned down to minimum

Use cases -

Place an instance at the beginning of a midi channel and experiment with shifting the notes forward different amounts (with a percussion pattern for example)

Make a MIDI Effect rack with SimpleGroove on each chain to make interesting delay patterns

Drop a few instances onto the chains of a drum rack and mess with the Beat control to quickly spice up your beats. You can find some nice surprises this way. Personally I like to map the Beat dials to the Drum Rack macros using about 4 chains, and randomize the macros until I find something good.

This is a super useful device! Simple to use with great results. Thanks for the idea of putting several devices on different drum chains. Not sure why but I don't think I would have thought to do that on my own. The results are really good. I've been missing having a simple swing option in Live. The groove function is great but sometimes you want to manually tweak which this allows for. Thanks for sharing this! It get used a lot!

Holy moly!! I've been getting into playing beats through OSC on an iPad and it really helps to have it quantized, but I also wanted to add some groove while playing live. This is EXACTLY what I needed! Thank you so much!
