- What is a wrapper?
Basically it’s a m4l (Max for Live) device that lets you use a plugin without having to open the plugin’s window.
My wrappers mimic all the visual behavior of the plugins. So the led lights will glow, the VU meter needles will move, the buttons can be pressed, the knobs will turn, and every other visual thing will be like the original plugins’ GUI.
- What are the advantages of using a wrapper?
You won’t have to open the plugin window every time you want to make a change or have any visual feedback. And you can always minimize the device by double-clicking at the top, like any other device.
Besides, you will be able to midi-map and automate all the parameters like every Ableton native device. Just by clicking on a parameter, the automation lane will change to that parameter.
- Do I need to own the UAD plugin in order to use the wrapper?
Yes. These are only wrappers. In order to use them, you need to own a license of the Universal Audio plugin. You can get their Spark subscription here: https://spark.uaudio.com/
- Are these wrappers the Native UADx plugins or the Hardware UAD-2 ones?
Both. For every plugin, you will find a Native UADx wrapper and a Hardware UAD-2 wrapper.
You can check the user manual here:

---------------------------------
v 1.1: Initial pack release with a lot of fixes.
v 1.2: Fixed a bug with the Century Tube compressor VU meter not working properly.
Now the Waterfall Rotary doesn't need the opening Max workaround in order to display the images.
Changed the way that the Magnetic Tapes are displayed: Now they don't go black when resizing, they have a better resolution, and doesn't crash anymore.
v 1.3: Solved some issues with Windows PCs and VST. Fixed a little bug with the Ratio buttons on the 1176, the predelay fader on the pure plate and the mic position on the hitsville chambers not updating correctly. Now the leds in the waterfall's audio meter and next to the balance knob work. Also the valve next to the drum speaker will glow too. Fixed an issue with the tapes velocity. If you can't see the tapes or the waterfall's speakers, check the user manual.

1. Hardware wrappers are opening the correct AU plugin (UAD-2), however, it is causing a spike in Ableton's CPU (%). Normally UAD-2 plugins shouldn't add to the CPU since the DSP processing is external. I double checked my UAD control panel and have confirmed that the Hardware Wrapper is opening the correct plugin, so IDK what's up with it..?
2. Both wrapper types (UAD-2 & UADx) won't let the external plug-in windows remain in view. As soon as I touch any parameter on the Wrapper UI, the (floating) Plug-In window immediately closes out. This is occurring in every single wrapper device, so I assume it is happening because of some preference within the Max Editor. Any idea..?
1. I did the hardware UAD-2 versions because it seemed convenient, but I couldn't test them. In theory, the cpu should only go up the same % as the UADx (only for the gui computing).
I was debating if include the UAD-2 versions, because they can introduce a new problem: Max always use a buffer size of 64 samples, so if your project is at a different buffer size and you are using other UAD-2 plugins (without the wrapper) and the wrappers, you may get an error (although they seem to work anyways).
If I can, I will try to look into the problem you describe!
2. Yes, this was made like this by design. The thing is I needed a way to both set and retrieve the plugin information without creating a "feedback" loop.
And the way I found was to only retrieve the plugin information when the plugin window was open and to close the window when the wrapper window was clicked.
If I don't do this, when you move a parameter on the wrapper window, it passes the information to the plugin and it is retrieved again, creating a feedback loop.
Also, I thought this wouldn't be a problem, as you can already see the gui with the wrapper.
Hope that makes sense!
What I don't know if the new wrappers will be a pack upgrade, another pack or free with this pack... They take ages to make!
Anyway or another keep up the good work and if the time allows make some nice new wrappers :)
The UADx native wrapper is included but the hardware version is missing. Is this an oversight? Or were you not able to get the HW version to work?
I'm thinking about buying it, because unfortunately I have to work on Mojave OS, and the UAD native plugins interface doesn't work here.
