Description
This is just an updated revision of my quick selector for octave or fifth intervals. I have added some adaptability to different skins (but I'm still tweaking that...) and re-arranged the layout to make it more intuitive. I have been using this a lot for my synthesis research over the last few months, and so it was about time to release a refined increment.
The buttons on the left let you choose from -2 to +2 octaves of transposition, whilst the right side lets you choose up or down a fifth. The transpositions add up, so the total range is +/- 29 semitones (which is shown in the grey box on the lower right...)
I typically use his to replace the Ableton 'Pitch' device, which has a rotary control that requires precise adjustment - this alternative is much quicker when you are a 'do everything with the mouse' editor like I am. In Instrument Racks, having a quick way to shift synths up and down in octaves or fifths speeds up development and editing.
(If you are a keyboard shortcut user, then you will probably prefer the 'Pitch' device from Ableton and use the 'Shift+Up/Down' keyboard shortcut to transpose pitch in octaves. I'm not ware of a keyboard shortcut for fifths...)
If this was a modular, then Quick Transpose would be one of those neat utility modules that helps improve playability and control, and so the Modular Equivalent in basic modules would be about 3 or 4 ME.
The 0v03 update is just to fix a very minor UI weakness in 0v02...
I have also extended the blog post to add additional information on how to use Quick transpose inside an Instrument Rack:
